'The Witcher' Season 3 makes a brazen reference to 'Carrie'

For those who predicted a reference to Stephen King’s Carrie in The Witcher Season 3, you will need to have Ciri’s powers of foresight.

The second quantity of the third season of Netflix’s adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski’s books has landed, and with it a telekinesis second worthy of the worst promenade ever. And sure, spoilers are forward.

This contains the vengeful Elven queen Francesca Findabair (Mecia Simson) and her associate Filavandrel aén Fidháil (Tom Canton), who lead the cost for the Nilfgaardians with knight Cahir (Eamon Farren). However sadly for them, hell hath no fury like a strong sorceress scorned, and Tissaia De Vries (MyAnna Buring) stands actually burned by her lover Vilgefortz’s treachery.

Within the central courtroom ballroom, they battle for Aretuza. Seeing her fellow mages felled with magic-repellant Dimeritium arrows, Tissaia conjures a strong ball of magic and hurls it towards Francesca. Alas, Filavandrel takes the bullet for her and promptly explodes right into a bloody mess throughout his love.

The picture of Francesca screaming, horrified, and lined head to toe in blood is immediately paying homage to King’s Carrie and the 1976 movie starring Sissy Spacek. The second parallels the well-known scene when the titular protagonist’s onstage crowning as promenade queen is interrupted by a private bathe of pig’s blood on the college promenade, due to teen bully Chris (Nancy Allen). But when it appears merely coincidence, The Witcher hammers the reference house, as Francesca makes use of her telekinetic powers to seal the doorways to the ballroom along with her eyes — precisely what Carrie does to the doorways of the varsity gymnasium.
